Yin, the feminine, is black. In this darkness lies the Truth, knowledge is gained in the light, wisdom is gained by peering into the blackness. Like the daughters of Jerusalem this girl had to work in the sun and did not enjoy the high social upbringing of those pale-skinned girls from other areas. She compares herself to the sunburnt and roughly hewn tents of the nomadic Kedar, and to the goat-skin sheets which the nomadic Salmah use in the desert.
