Two reasons why the ego interferes with the Way.  The ego may make one so proud that one cannot even admit to being smaller than, or dependant on God.  In this event the soul is lost, and even if this deluded stupid ego will worship or sacrifice it will be doing it with a great sense of self-consciousness, which attains absolutely nothing.  Another reason why the ego stand in the way of the pilgrim, is that it is usually so engrossed in its own self-importance of I must do this, I have to get that, I must ask God, I will try this undertaking, How do I look?, I need to hang more jewels on Me, I will look good in that suit, I must look after My possessions, I must concern Myself with My old age luxuries, etc; that the noise in the mind is so overbearing with all the thoughts that the voice of God’s guidance is not heard.
