The karma-yogi remains detached from the result while concentrating on doing the best job possible.  Consider the waiter requested by the master of the lodge to go to a particular shelf to find an item, and the item is out of stock  The waiter returns to report this to the master without feeling dejected by the experience.  Next week the waiter will be sent again and upon finding the item in stock returns with it as requested, but is not overjoyed about the result of the find.  The waiter is doing a job well, and this is what is of importance.  We are servants of God and should go about our errands and tasks diligently, refraining from thinking that we actually run the whole business.
