Single-mindedness is what meditation and contemplation is all about – to hold the thought of self-realisation all the time.  To realise the self is to unshackle the spirit so it can express its divine qualities through mind and body.  Meditation and contemplation should have this ideal – to become a lifestyle and not just a moment in a day or week.  Gaining self-realisation is the most important and most difficult task of all and it needs our total effort.  This is why it is important to do work which helps us on the Way, and eat foods and keep friends and do devotions which assist our minds to be single-minded.
The irresolute person who is still concerned about worldly things as if they are real and as if they matter, cannot be single-minded but has thousands of thoughts flashing through their minds every day.  The static noise caused in the receivers, so to speak, is so overwhelming that the voice of God’s guidance cannot be heard.
