The spirit enters a body (incarnates) for the purpose of experiencing, for a short time, the sense experiences.  These pleasures, pains and sensations must be endured because they are not only transitory but feeble as well.  That which produces great virtue in one instance may prove painful in another instance but even one experience may prove both painful and pleasurable all at once.  These experiences are not real to the spirit but to the body.
