Arjuna suddenly realises in this time of catastrophe that his earthly and
material prosperity of wives, riches and talents are worthless to aid him
in warding off what has become to him the dilemma of life. If he slays
his enemies he will never again enjoy life notwithstanding his wealth
if he does not slay his enemies he will die. This is a common scenario
in many humans lives, to come to a stage where status, material prosperity
and talents in worldly affairs suddenly seem all worthless --because it
features not in otherworldly affairs.
Arjuna suddenly appeals to his Krishna
as disciple, as most people are driven to do when all they thought they
had mastered suddenly disappears as its value diminishes.
