Prayer and fasting are among the religious devices available to us to attain unity with the Energies of God.  Yesu is making the point that religious devices can easily become meaningless ritual.  The soul in union with the Spirit in the bridal chamber does not fast and pray to attain bliss - she is in bliss.  When the bridegroom, the Spirit, leaves the bridal chamber, then fasting and praying becomes necessary.  See how Mark 2:18-22 makes use of this Saying.
